UFHPTI Welcomes New Physics Faculty

Twyla Willoughby, PhD, FAAPM
A University of Florida alumna who received her PhD from UF’s medical physics graduate program. Dr. Willoughby brings over 25 years of clinical experience to UFHPTI and spent several years as a proton therapy physicist at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. She is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics.

Dr. Willoughby has authored or co-authored 58 publications and has held leadership positions at both the local and national levels, including roles as President of the FL AAPM and Chair of AAPM Task Group 147. In recognition of her service and contribution to medical physics, Dr. Willoughby was inducted as a Fellow of the AAPM in 2019.

Hardev Singh Grewal, PhD
He received his doctorate in medical physics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. With nearly a decade of clinical proton therapy experience, he served for many years at the Oklahoma Proton Center, a fellow IBA facility. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics. Dr. Grewal has authored or co-authored 10 publications. His recent paper on deep learning approaches in proton therapy was awarded as a top cited article in the Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics for 2020-2021. Dr. Grewal has led several large projects, including the commissioning of new proton therapy systems.
