Friday, before we leave you, we spotlight good news on Jacksonville's Morning News. The UF Health Jacksonville Proton Therapy Institute celebrating its 20th anniversary with another Chime story. Moe LaTour lives in Gainesville, worked at UF, so it runs in her blood. She survived a uterine cancer diagnosis in 2008. That was treated at UF in Gainesville. Then when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, she turned to UF again for her options.

Moe LaTour
So when I became a stage 2 and then a stage 4 breast cancer patient, I had no idea the scope of excellent care that was available to patients.

Rich Jones
She calls proton therapy in Jacksonville a unique, great experience, but admits there were reservations. Still, she was comfortable with the trajectory of care presented.

Moe LaTour
After I had a mastectomy and that healed, I proceeded to go to Jacksonville and I lived in Third and Main, which is affiliated with the Proton Center, and that was kind of cool. I learned to live in a tiny home, so to speak, and the care that I received at UF Proton Jacksonville was probably one of the best experiences of my life.

Treatment was every day for eight to nine weeks, and her last day was just before Halloween when she got to ring Aud’s Chime.

Moe LaTour
I knew it was the end of an era of care. But I still had some more therapy to do because of the aggressiveness of my breast cancer. But it was a nice end of treatment mark milestone that my family and I all appreciated that we had that opportunity to be a success at some level of therapy.

Moe considers herself a walking miracle full of perseverance and strength. Rich Jones, 104.5 WOKV.
