RE:    A Very Special Reason to be Thankful This Christmas

At this special time of the year, when our prayers flow, and peace and hope abound, let me share with you a personal story.

I have been fighting cancer for over two years. I have just completed a very complicated protocol for treatment and the indicators are it was very successful. I chose not to share my condition with anyone except my immediate family and I hope that you never detected in me the burden of disease. However, I feel comfortable in sharing the good news with you and to thank you for your support for the University of Florida Proton Beam Radiation Project.

I was diagnosed with the most serious and aggressive form of prostate cancer. Thanks to the power of prayer and the University of Florida/Shands staff and technology, I will be joining you again.

I know some of you have wondered why I have not been in attendance at some of the functions. The treatment schedule did not give me much latitude.

Needless to say, this will be a very special Christmas for my family and me. I am wishing you a healthy and happy New Year. We in the House are family. I love and respect all of you and I hope you will keep my recovery in your prayers for---I am "THE MAN". May God bless you and keep you and please be thankful for every day of this precious life that God gives to you and your family.

P.S.: As a thank you to the wonderful staff at the Florida Proton Therapy Institute, I provided a Christmas lunch for them on Thursday, December 21. Attached are a couple photos from the event and a link to the First Coast News Channel 12 story on the event.
